Many Hands Make Light Work
Many hands make light work!
LHS FFA workday. Students weeded the daisy patch.
That was completely true today, May 22, with a "work day" visit from LHS FFA!
More than 30 FFA (Future Farmers of America) members & their advisers visited the farm today! They planted hundreds of plants in the new addition to the farm: a labyrinth MT & I designed yesterday. They also weeded the daisy patch & transplanted cosmos. Several fellas utilized my backpack sprayer & fertilized all of my plants on the farm! A group of creative ladies painted beautiful signs that will label a few areas of the farm. They did all of this work & more in just a few hours, saving me many weeks of work! I'm extremely grateful for their visit! π

LHS FFA students use backpack sprayer to fertilize the cut flower garden.
LHS FFA students weed the flower garden.
Of course I fed them breakfast & unlimited snacks, then I sent them back to school with you-pick sunflowers & plants!
It was a great visit!
If you're a farmer, contact your local FFA adviser. Invite them to your farm for a tour, work day, or other activity. These students are energetic and eager to learn about farming. It's a win-win for both the farmer and the student.
Find Your Marigolds
Marigolds are great companion plants just like flower farmer friends are great friends!
π΅ Marigolds are the ULTIMATE companion flower! They are easy, vibrant, & cheery! They attract pollinators, but repel pests!
π΅Marigolds are drought tolerant with abundant blooms until frost.
Sounds like the perfect flower & FRIEND!
I have been fortunate to find a few "marigolds" along my flower farming journey. I met Chrissy of Helena Hills Farm first. We met in 2023 at a Clemson agritourism event. She's amazing & kind! We share a love of flower farming & deep roots in Girl Scouts. We have since attended four more flower farming events together & a few private events. Chrissy met Alexis of Wild Goose Flower Farm, LLC during a Dept of Ag program and later introduced me to her at an agritourism conference. Alexis is a veteran, a nurse, a mom of 3, & a flower farmer! She's amazing! We've all become fast friends bonded by our flower farming journeys.
I love our supportive, noncompetitive vibe. We share tips, tubers, seeds, plants, links, & laughs. We're separated by hundreds of SC miles, so we've created our own private farm tour. We're alternating hosting each other at each of our farms for a farm work day! 3 weed pullers are better than 1, right, even if it's just for a day! π My farm tour/work day is up next! The knowledge & support I have gained so far from Chrissy & Alexis has been invaluable!
Find your π΅ MARIGOLDS! π΅ Whatever it is you love to do, find & cherish the people who support you! There's no time for anything less! π΅
